Psychiatric Evaluation and Diagnosis

The First Step

Why Evaluation?
Tailoring Your Treatment
The provider has experience in treating a wide variety of mental health conditions. Our Psychiatric Evaluation and Diagnosis is a thorough and intensive evaluation conducted in order to provide accurate diagnosis and develop a customized treatment plan for each individual patient. The provider will also take into account any other factors that may be affecting your mental health, such as current stressors in your life.

Data Collection
Though the psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis process is a thorough and intensive evaluation, it’s critical in providing accurate diagnosis and developing an effective treatment plan. The provider will ask you about your symptoms, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, as well as your medical history and any family history of mental illness. This information will help them make a diagnosis since the goal of the evaluation is to arrive at a clear understanding of the nature of the problem and to make recommendations for treatment. Psychiatric evaluations are important tools in helping mental health professionals provide the best possible care for our patients.

Data Analysis
An initial evaluation is completed during the first visit. Ongoing assessment and evaluation takes place during subsequent visits, during which the provider will ask you a variety of questions. The provider may also request that you complete certain tests and/or questionnaires for a deeper understanding. Once the evaluation is complete, the provider will discuss their findings with you and develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs. The provider may also give you a physical exam to rule out any physical causes of your symptoms. For example, symptoms of anxiety can be caused by an overactive thyroid.
